Over the past 28 years, he has conducted research on a wide range of topics within the broad field of structural engineering, including the use of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in civil engineering and steel & thin-walled structures. He has authored/co-authored over 160 SCI journal papers, leading to some 3,600 non-self citations according to the Web of Science. His work has impacted significantly on relevant design guidelines/codes in Australia, China, Europe and the United States. Prof.

Teng has received a number of prestigious awards for his research, including the Distinguished Young Scholar Award from the Natural Science Foundation of China, the IIFC Medal from the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC), the State-of-the-Art of Civil Engineering Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Howard Medal from the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK), and the Harting Award from the Society for Experimental Mechanics. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the international journal "Advances in Structural Engineering” and a member of the editorial boards of 7 other SCI journals including "Engineering Structures”,”Journal of Composites for Construction” and "Thin-Walled Structures”. Professor Teng has been a member of the Scientific/Advisory/Steering Committees of over 110 conferences, and has delivered keynote/invited presentations at over 60 conferences/symposia.
